Tomorrowland (2015) – 7/10
Shamelessly optimistic and wonderfully imaginative Disney film. Watch it with an open mind and a desire to be inspired.
Actors George Clooney and Britt Robertson engage with a vulnerable sincerity. Geniuses both; the older, disillusioned Frank and the youthful, determined Casey.
They save the world, literally. Corny but true: hope or despair? You choose. Feed the winner.
The Descendants (2011) – 7/10
Starring – drum roll – the illustrious George Clooney. I’m being a bit of a smart ass cause there’s something about Mr Clooney that just makes me want to say ‘ugh’! He’s intriguing and appears intelligent. Doesn’t mind poking fun at himself. Maybe it’s the ‘elitist’ air about him that I find so ugh.
That said, ‘The Descendants’ is a good movie. Complex emotion on many levels. You can see it all on George’s face. Is he a good guy? We don’t know. Does he love his family? Appears to. Has he learned anything? Could be.
The daughters are lovely with a compelling depth of character. So that cheating bitch of a mother must have done something ok. Sid is dear; his presence is a comfort to the girls and, eventually, to George.
The Hawaiian islands are beautiful. The Hawaiian music is ok but a bit much. Felt a little manipulated by the soundtrack at times. You’re not supposed to feel that way. George’s connection to Hawaiian history is pushing it, but that’s ok. Directed by Alexander Payne.
